Cocoa has been considered a precious commodity since ancient times. Civilizations that lived in Central America were the first to use the fruits of the Theobroma cacao tree (“food of the gods”) to prepare a drink that was served at public ceremonies and rituals, already regarded as an elixir of health. The first cocoa beans were brought to Europe by Columbus, but the ingredient was not used widely until later. In Spain, they enjoyed this marvelous drink, jealously keeping its preparation secret from the rest of Europe for several decades. Due to its composition, cocoa is now considered a nutritionally rich food.

Add a teaspoon of cocoa powder to sweets, shakes, desserts, various drinks, or according to the recipe. If you’re making it as a drink, first heat the water, and before it comes to a boil, add the cocoa powder and let it cook. You can make it with water and then optionally add some milk at the end, or make it with only milk.
